What are Promotional SMS?

What is an SMS API?

Usually Bulk SMS Services providers provide an online panel to push SMS to your target audience. Most times clients have their own customised software, ERP, CRM which their customers use They require the SMS service to be integrated with their software and automate the SMS sending process. How many characters constitute one SMS?

Global standards allow 160 characters in a single SMS in the English language. These 160 characters could include alphabets, digits, special characters, spaces or newlines. In case the character length goes beyond 160 then multiple SMS credits get deducted and the message gets delivered as a long message. The character length in a long message gets modified to 153 characters from 160. These counts are different for Non-English SMS.

What is an Opt-In with respect to TRAI Rules and Regulations?

An Opt-In is a permission given by the mobile subscriber (on paper or digitally) to an advertiser, for pushing promotional information updates over the medium of SMS or Voice. The digital Opt-In is acceptable to a greater degree by Mobile Operators for any DND complaints generated. A digital Opt-In could be a screen shot of any CRM / ERP / Database. Details like Name, Mobile Number, Registration Date, Client Address etc. are mandatory in the Opt-In. Any Opt-In is valid for a period of 6 months.

What is DND?

An option is provided to Mobile Subscribers to register their numbers with their Mobile Network Operator into the DND register. DND stands for "Do Not Disturb". Once registered into this register, the mobile subscriber cannot be sent any promotional messages / calls by any Telemarketer. It provides flexibility to the mobile subscriber to control the unwanted promotional incoming messages / calls.

The most genuine data on which you promotional campaigns can be done is your own customer / potential customer data. This data may have been collected by you over a period of time. We have a mobile number database based on telecom circles. It may or may not be relevant for your specific requirement. The database we have is available for use free of cost. Buying and Selling of mobile number data is not legal in India.
